The Ministry of Road Transport has proposed new standards for vehicles:
Provision for testing of AC and heating systems in agricultural tractors;
New rules are being introduced for type approval for vehicles transporting troops (defense or police) in India;
New rules are being introduced for type approval for trailer caravans.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed new standards for certain vehicles. These include testing of air conditioning (AC) and heating systems in agricultural tractors, and type approval rules for troop carriers and trailer caravans.
What new regulations are proposed for tractors? According to the draft Automotive Industry Standards (AIS), standards will be set for testing AC and heating systems in agricultural tractors with cabins. This move is intended to provide relief to farmers and operators who often work in harsh weather. These new rules will not apply to hybrid and fully electric tractors.
Why are regulations necessary for trailer caravans? Caravan tourism is becoming increasingly popular in India, offering greater freedom and flexibility during travel. Trailer caravans are considered a unique travel option, offering accommodation even in places where hotel infrastructure is limited. Keeping this in mind, clearer rules for type approval have been proposed for them.
What changes will happen for troop carriers? Special standards have also been proposed for troop carriers, which are typically built on bus or truck chassis. These vehicles are modified to meet safety and operational requirements, which can sometimes cause registration difficulties. The new rules will help simplify this process.
What benefits will these rules bring? Under the proposed standards, vehicle manufacturers and bodybuilders will be able to obtain type approval. Once this approval is granted, registration of such vehicles will become more straightforward and smooth. This will not only simplify the administrative process but also increase transparency and safety in vehicle use.
Will this change impact various sectors? These new rules will impact several sectors, including agriculture, defense, law and order, and tourism. This could provide better facilities to farmers, more efficient vehicles to security forces, and a boost to the tourism sector.
